Dr. Stephanie Woo
Why did I start coaching?
Throughout my life, I’ve always been drawn to teaching. When I was in high school and college, my goal was to be a science teacher. In fact, my college degree is in Science Education. However, during college, my curiosity of medicine ultimately drew me to optometry. As a patient with very poor vision, the eye always fascinated me. After optometry school, I decided to pursue a Cornea and Contact Lens Residency. I gained experience with patients I would likely never see in general practice if I had started working straight out of optometry school. I learned how to effectively manage thousands of patients with irregular corneas, and I became very confident in my skills.
After my residency was completed, I decided to move back to my hometown of Lake Havasu, Arizona, in efforts to pay back some student loan debt faster. I joined my childhood optometrist, Dr. Stuart Adams. Dr. Adams had 3 private practices – we saw comprehensive eye exams, standard contact lenses and glasses, ocular disease, co-managed various surgeries, and eye emergencies. One challenge I faced was, “How do I implement specialty contact lenses into a practice that currently does not offer this?”
Even though I had gained invaluable education and experience during my residency, I didn’t have a clue how to integrate this into real life practice. I had to trial and error many things during the early years such as patient scheduling, developing an exam flow, training the staff, learning how to bill for medically necessary contact lenses, and more. The beginning days were challenging, but we learned what worked and what didn’t work and developed a dynamic system with proven results. We grew the practice to over 1,000 specialty lens patients over a 5 year period. We doubled the income of the practice within 2 years. Even though this was a great accomplishment, what if I had a coach who could have helped me develop a system that worked early on? How much time and frustration could I have saved?
Educating other eye doctors has always been a part of my optometry career. From the moment I completed my residency, I started lecturing at major meetings around the world on the topic of contact lenses and anterior eye disease. I’ve been involved with many scleral lens companies, helping them to educate other doctors on how to use their product. I’ve led scleral lens workshops to assist doctors who want to learn how to fit scleral lenses. This has become a major part of my career, and I wanted to figure out a way to help doctors even more.
Now, I have taken my knowledge and experience to other eye doctors like you! My goal is to help eye doctors take their businesses to the next level. Perhaps you want to incorporate scleral lenses into practice but you don’t know how. Maybe you have a general optometry clinic and you’d like to generate more income. Possibly you have no clue how to bill and code effectively for medically necessary contact lenses. Whatever your goal is, I am committed to helping you. Let’s schedule a discovery call to see if we are the right fit for each other! I will give you all of my trade secrets that took me 10+ years to learn. I am truly passionate about helping doctors just like you take their careers to the next level!
